Pavonia Massacre of Lenape (New Jersey)

Hundreds of Lenape flee Mahican invaders and seek refuge in New Amsterdam. Kieft refuses and then leads a raiding party to slaughter over a hundred unarmed Lenape men, women, children, and elders in the settlement of Pavonia. The Dutch local citizen advisory group had been against the raid and were horrified when they heard the details of the massacre.
